David is an extremely experienced Family Law barrister with many years’ experience. He has been accepting instructions directly from the public for many years and was one of the first barristers to be licenced by the Bar Counsel to conduct litigation. This means that he is authorised not just to appear at court and to advise but also to handle the whole process of the litigation.

David specialises in financial cases and is regarded as someone who takes an eminently sensible and reasonable approach in order to achieve settlement where possible, but one who will take a very forceful approach where that is required.

Having developed his advocacy skills for a number of years at the Criminal Bar, he is particularly regarded for his ability to uncover the truth through cross-examination.

In addition to financial remedy cases upon divorce, David acts in Schedule 1 cases involving financial provision for the children of unmarried couples. He is also instructed in private law Children Act cases.

David usually works on the basis of fixed fees quoted in advance of work being done as he finds that is preferred by most clients. He is happy to work on the basis of an hourly rate if that is desired.

David is a qualified Arbitrator under the IFLA scheme. He regularly provides awards both after fully contested oral hearings and also after a "documents only” procedure where he makes his decision on the basis of written submissions.

He also conducts private FDRs or early neutral evaluations, in which he assists both parties in achieving a negotiated settlement.
