Mukhtiar has over 20 years’ experience working for various public bodies before he became a barrister. As such, his considerable life and work experience enables him to understand his clients’ interests and identify practical solutions.
He is in a rare and enviable position of establishing his practice almost entirely through recommendations. He is frank with his clients and provides an early assessment of the merits of the case and the associated costs/risks.
Often a dispute simply requires a robust letter to the other party setting out the factual and legal issues. Mukhtiar has resolved numerous disputes through pre-action correspondence: avoiding costly and stressful litigation.
Mukhtiar is able to grasp the issues in a case quickly and has successfully represented clients at hearings and trials despite “last minute” instructions.
He has an office in Central London and Kent, but often travels much further. He intends to respond to any emailed enquiries within 2 business days. Enquiries should include a very brief summary of the advice you seek including any court dates and deadlines.
His main areas of practice are employment; professional discipline; & commercial. He provides training and lectures to solicitors and HR professionals on all aspects of employment law and civil litigation. He has a particular interest in whistleblowing and discrimination cases.
Prior to becoming a barrister, Mukhtiar enjoyed 10 years’ experience in employment relations having acted for employees and employers. He now deals with all types of employment disputes for Claimants and employers including litigation in the Employment Tribunal, County Court and High Court:
• Unfair dismissal and wrongful dismissal
• Unpaid wages
• Discipline, misconduct and performance
• Long-term sickness absence
• Compromise Agreements
• Restrictive Covenants, including urgent injunctions
• Harassment and Discrimination including disability discrimination
• Working Time Regulations
• National Minimum Wage
• Maternity/adoption and pregnancy rights
He is often instructed in cases in County Court, including breach of contract; restraint of trade; partnership disputes; and director/shareholder disputes.
Mukhtiar applies his robust advocacy skills to his practical awareness. He has been advised on proceedings brought by the Nursing and Midwifery Council; Health and Care Professions Council; NHS (England); General Optical Council; AQA (teaching examination board) and police.
A substantial part of Mukhtiar’s civil practice involves a broad spectrum of commercial law: contract; insolvency; professional negligence; and company and partnership law.
Mukhtiar has recently appeared in the Companies Court to restrain winding up proceedings and bankruptcy. He acts for both petitioners and debtors. He is currently instructed in a number of director/shareholder disputes involving allegations of fraud; dishonest assistance; unfair prejudice; and breach of fiduciary duties.
