Having qualified first as a solicitor in 1988, I then worked in local government in London before qualifying as a barrister in 1998. Hence, I have nearly 30 years’ experience of working as a qualified lawyer on both sides of the legal profession in England.

I specialize in cases which involve Planning, Property, or Local Government law – including compulsory purchase & compensation, and business rates and valuation. I have experience of conducting cases in such matters in most civil courts (e.g. ss. 288/289 planning challenges, planning judicial reviews, land and landlord & tenant disputes); criminal courts (e.g. conservation area, listed building offences, and planning prosecutions - including POCA confiscation, and business rates collection); specialist tribunals (e.g. Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) rating valuation appeals, C.P.O. compensation, and restrictive covenant discharge/variation); Public Inquiries (e.g. s. 78 planning appeals and s. 174 enforcement notice appeals); and at mediation (property disputes including breach of contract & prof. neg.).

Whilst access to legal information is readily available, clear, accurate and practical legal advice is very often necessary to enable a client to understand substantive law and their rights and obligations, and how to instigate, progress and conduct a case. Whilst some cases involve one area of law, many do not. Having broadly based experience can sometimes add value in both correctly identifying what the legal issues actually are, and how they may be best resolved.

I offer a free initial consultation (either in person, by telephone, or e-mail) to consider the suitability of your case and the scope and likely cost of the legal work required.
