I have been practising as a barrister for over 25 years and was selected as Queens Counsel in 2012. I regularly represent in all tiers of court up to and including the UK Supreme Court. My specialism is Child law cases- intractable international parental abduction and other domestic private law matters involving children and their parents. My day to day work includes the interpretation of international Child law instruments (e.g. the 1996 and 1980 Hague conventions and Brussels II revised) as well as arguing domestic cases involving seeking permission to relocate to another country or within this country. Intractable contact and residence cases are also a regular feature of my practice as are surrogacy matters and I am known for my work in FGM and Forced Marriage cases. In recent years I have been selected to represent the Attorney General in marriage valididty and in child trafficking cases. Arguing about whether a marriage took place and the correct jurisdiction for divorce proceedings are also my forte.

In 2008 I won the Chambers and Partners Family (junior) Barrister of the year and in 2011 Jordans Family Barrister of the Year. I am ranked 1 by Chambers and Partners -please see for more information and I have been selected by Spears.

Although the majority of my practice is now in London, where I live with my wife and children, I travel to courts across the country and on occasion to international jurisdictions such as BVI (I am a member of the Eastern Caribbean Bar).

I often see clients at short notice in chambers for consultations on pre-proceedings or tactical issues, which attract legal professional privilege. My clients come from all walks of life and on occasion are the children themselves.
