Having been a senior lawyer for two local authorities for the 15 years prior to returning to private practice in 2014. He has experience in planning; hackney carriage and private hire licensing; liquor licensing; housing; contracts; employment; assets of community value; DPA & FOI; Environmental Health and food; RIPA; Administrative law and the law relating to discrimination.

Jeremy’s particular areas of experience are:
Having advised planning officers, committees, and, more recently, individuals on the planning process and enforcement matters, including, enforcement notices, stop notices and injunctions. Also advising on and representing at planning enquiries.
Hackney carriage and private hire licensing
Having advised on these areas of law throughout his time in local government and subsequently; regularly representing councils in civil and criminal proceedings; and advising on changes to the law Jeremy’s knowledge of the law from the council’s perspective is of benefit when considering the position of licence holders and potential licence holders.
Jeremy has advised licensing committees and, more recently, applicants or licence holders and appeared before licensing committee.
Jeremy expertise is particularly in relation to public sector housing, but also extends into private sector housing. His experience includes advising on and representing parties in possession actions, nuisance claims, HMO matters, prohibition notices and related matters
Jeremy has experience of drafting, reviewing and advising on contracts of various sizes. Whilst working for local government he drafted standard and more complex contracts to meet the needs of the authorities various departments.
Jeremy has substantial experience of employment law, including contracts of employment, TUPE, employment policies for two local authorities, dismissals, grievances and health related matters.
Assets of Community Value
Jeremy has advised and appeared in relation to application for the registration of property as an asset of community value.
Data Protection and Freedom of Information
Having been the responsible officer for these areas for two councils for a number of years Jeremy has developed expertise in these areas, having regularly advised on their application and the requirements of the relevant legislation. .
Environmental Health and Food
Jeremy has experience in these areas having advised and represented authorities in food prosecutions; noise abatement matters; other statutory nuisance matters.
Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act
Having been the authorising officer for two councils of a number of years Jeremy has developed expertise in this area.
Having been the senior lawyer and Monitoring Officer for two councils for a number of years, Jeremy has a thorough understanding of the decision making process; schemes of delegations; powers and functions of local government.
Jeremy has advised on the Equality Act 2006 in relation to employment and the delivery of services.
