My field of expertise relates to disputes (usually, but not always in connection with divorce) over the ownership or transfer of property or land, business / company valuation, family trusts, cases where a partner/spouse has significant medical issues, cases of alleged hidden assets and other financial misconduct.
I represent clients in Family and County Courts all over the North of England and in the High Court, from my specialist family law Chambers in Leeds. In addition, I am qualified as an Accredited Mediator and Chartered Arbitrator and I am equally at home where the parties are able to have civil dealings with each other (they remain are on speaking terms) as well as where there is nothing but hostility and enmity, and all points in between.
Area of Law
What sort of work do I do?
In the context of divorce and dissolution of civil partnerships, I advise on, and represent clients making and opposing (as the case may be) applications for:
lump sum and property adjustment orders (including in high net worth cases), pension sharing orders, interim and final maintenance orders, legal services payment orders, orders for the sale of land, freezing injunctions, orders setting aside transactions (that were intended to defeat financial remedies applications), variation applications, costs applications, disputes concerning personal belongings.
In the context of engaged couples, advising on and drafting ‘pre-nup’ agreements.
In the context of unmarried couples, dealing with their property disputes and housing, and school fees and maintenance provision for their children.
Mainly appearing in courts in the North of England.
Please note I do not represent clients in child arrangement disputes, ie issues relating to residence (formerly custody) or contact (formerly access), as opposed to disputes over money and property.
This website does not currently permit reasons to be given for rejecting a client inquiry, but usually the reason is that the inquiry relates either to child care issues (see above) or the hearing is in the South or South West (more than two hours drive from Leeds).
Who do I work for?
Those who want to save on the potentially huge cost of top-level legal representation in their financial dispute. Those who are looking for effective and efficient solutions. If you are able to be organised, work to court timetables and, under my guidance, deal with the administrative tasks that a solicitor or paralegal would otherwise carry out, then you can save entirely on the costs of engaging a solicitor.
