I am a KC specialising in family work. I have been a family lawyer for 31 yers and still find each new case stimulating, interesting and challenging. Every case is unique to its own facts and needs to be approached accordingly.

My areas of practice can be summarised as follows:-
1. Financial remedies work. I specialise in cases involving off shore tax structures, family trusts and private limited companies. These issues can arise in both high and lower net value cases; I happily represent husbands, wives and, when appropriate, interveners. I enjoy a balanced portfolio of work.
2. Care work. I have represented numerous Local Authorities, parents and other relatives over the years and, occasionally, Guardians as well. I most enjoy the challenge of complex fact finding cases, for example ones involving fabricated illness, sexual abuse, infant deaths and non-accidental injuries.
3. Private law children work. I frequently represent mothers, fathers and grandparents in the whole gamut of private law applications, although my particular interests lie in what some call 'parental alienation' and leave to remove cases.
4. I also under take the full range of domestic violence/abuse work and have represented clients from a broad range of refuges over the years.
5. I undertake work in all levels of the Family Court, including appeals, frequently appear in inquests and occasionally, when the need requires, in either the Chancery or King's Bench Divisions.
6. I thrive on appeal work.

What sort of work do I do?

In the areas of family law detailed above, I provide the following services to my clients: advice and advocacy. Advice takes several forms: it can be provided in writing, face to face or via various video platforms. When I see a client, I always follow the meeting up with an email detailing the advice given. Advice can be necessary to determine which application(s) should be issued, to decide whether an adverse judicial decision should be appealed, consider proposals made by another party to the proceedings or simply to unpack the mystery of the family court.
Advocacy is the core element of my practice. I appear in all levels of the Family Court and consider that clients deserve first class representation. My usual approach to a case is to meet the client, establish a working relationship, decide what support they need and what I can provide; advise on the preparation of the appropriate application, assist with the drafting of witness and position statements, attend court with the client, provide post court feedback and draft the resulting orders. I am a firm believer that each case needs to be approached on its own merits because each client is unique.

Who do I work for?

I represent clients from a vast array of backgrounds. Diversity is the bread and butter of the Family Bar. I frequently represent parents with learning difficulties, personality and mental health issues and substance dependencies, many of whom struggle to understand the court process and/or English. At the other end of the spectrum, I am equally at ease with a private client who knows precisely what they want. Client care is at the centre of my professional ethos and I take pride in going the extra mile to ensure that the outcome of a case matches expectations.
