Marcus is a member of a set of barristers in London at New Square Chambers, but accepts instructions to appear across England and Wales and in arbitrations around the world. He lives in Suffolk with his young family and is a keen yacht racer and crossfitter.
Area of Law
Chancery
Marcus undertakes a variety of trusts work in the Chancery Division as well as more general chancery work often acting for the beneficiaries of estates, minority shareholders in company disputes such as unfair prejudice claims and insolvency situations (and the fallout from such personal bankruptcy or liquidation/winding-up of companies).
Commercial
Marcus has been appearing in the leading commercial courts in England for over a decade and acts as both junior and leading counsel in complex commercial cases. He regularly accepts instructions from foreign companies on a direct access basis to assist them pursue claims in the English and Welsh courts, principally in London. Such assistance may include challenging/defending the jurisdiction of any claim as well as enforcement of foreign judgments.
Insolvency and Restructuring
Marcus acts in the fields of both personal and corporate insolvency. Such work includes assisting those facing bankruptcy personally and its aftermath as well as all aspects of corporate insolvency from winding-up and liquidation to probing questions of directors and creditors later on. This is part of my wider chancery practice.
Landlord and Tenant
Marcus regularly acts for landlords seeking to recover damages for unpaid rent, delapidations and possession of residential and commerical dwellings. He has particular experience acting for HMO landlords in both the First Tier Tribunal and criminal courts when faced with allegations of breaches of the management regulations for HMOs.
Property
Marcus regularly undertakes all aspects of property law including disputes concerning a parties interest in the equity of a property often involving claims under TOLATA (Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996), orders for sale and the validity of deeds of trust. Other work often undertaken includes boundary disputes and claims concerning adverse possession.

His practice is principally involves contract and commercial law in the UK & around the world supporting businesses and individuals from the outset of claims to trial or settlement. In addition, Marcus undertakes instructions involving property & trusts.
