I specialise in criminal appeals. I am head of the 5KBW Criminal Appeals Unit, and the editor and contributor of Taylor on Criminal Appeals (Oxford University Press). The third edition was published in 2022.
To instruct me please contact our senior clerk, Lee Hughes-Gage, [email protected]

I have developed a particular expertise in appeal cases involving fresh expert forensic evidence (including GSR, DNA, CCTV), homicide, and offenders with mental disorders.
I have represented appellants before the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division), the Court of Appeal in Northern Ireland, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, and (remotely) in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal of Trinidad and Tobago.

What sort of work do I do?

I have appeared before the Privy Council, (as junior counsel) in capital appeals from the Caribbean, and as leading counsel in Philips v DPP (St Kitts and Nevis), (murder appeal); Williams v Supervisory Authority, (appeal challenging the constitutionality of the Antiguan money laundering regulations); and Watson v The King (2023) (Successful appeal against sentence of 50 years imprisonment for manslaughter).
I recently represented James Smith in his appeal before the Court of Appeal in Northern Ireland. (This was the first CCRC referral in NI based on the changes in the law following Jogee.)
I have extensive experience in drafting submissions to the Criminal Cases Review Commission.
