Before joining the Bar, In the legal world, I qualified as a Solicitor and subsequently as a Solicitor Advocate at one of Nottingham’s best regional Law firms, Smalley’s Solicitors. Consequently, I understand the importance of tailor-made client care and being personable. In the past I have worked as a modern foreign languages teacher so can offer spoken languages of Spanish, Hindi & Punjabi with basic Italian and French). I offer home visits or meetings by zoom phone or teams. My services are offered to clients all over the U.K. (particularly Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, and surrounding areas of the East Midlands where he is based). I do advise ex-pats in Andalucía (Spain, particularly Sevilla where I have a base) who have ongoing legal matters in the U.K. I believe I have unique skill set whereby I can offer public access services as a direct access barrister, who can conduct litigation. I am passionate about advising the public about their rights and a keen educator wo often writes various articles which you can find on Lexology. I am also a Filmmaker and when I am away from the legal desk, I am filming documentaries!

Area of Law

Costs

I have experience in dealing with solicitor and client costs disputes which can arise from a number of situations. It is crucial to understand if there is overbilling and if so, how and if this could constitute a breach of the retainer. I have dealt with cost orders in the Civil courts and employment tribunals leading to the Senior Courts Costs office.

Defamation

I have advised and represented clients up to the High Court in complex cases involving the Defamation Act 2013 concerning online broadcasts, social media statements and more. I have dealt with statements and comments that are made on the internet and other platforms and also advised filmmakers on avoiding such allegations.

Education

I have extensive experience in the education sector as I am a fully qualified modern foreign languages Teacher and taught in Secondary schools in the East and West Midlands (including A-level institutions and university courses and carried out exam marking). During my time as a teacher, I experienced many legal matters around me, (including but not limited to) such as parental orders, MASH referrals, discrimination of students/pupils, LADO referrals, parent complaints / appeals and staff disciplinaries. These all gave me the platform to represent clients in the education sector with a good understanding of how things work from ground level. Consequently, I represent Teachers (including TRA cases), Students (including IOA cases), Parents concerning the First-tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability) matters. I am keen advocate of ensuring children’s right to education is accessible and all children are safeguarded by the institutions they learn in from inequality, bullying and more.

Employment and Pensions

My experiences are drawn from my own personal experiences when I was employed within the education sector, and my professional experiences having dealt with many types of industries outside of education with clients from all over the world employed under U.K. contracts. I am experienced in settlement negotiations and agreements. I have represented Claimants and Respondents in complex sex, race, gender, and religious discrimination claims (amongst other protected characteristics) which entail issues of whistleblowing, victimisation, and harassment for and against public bodies, companies, and health institutions (and more). I also have wide experience in dealing with tampering allegations and using specialist expert evidence to present these allegations in the Employment Tribunal. I have a specific interest in the grievance and disciplinary stages of employment having experienced many situations where they are flawed. I have advised clients once judgements have come out concerning reconsiderations including recusal applications if there appears to be bias. I have advised up to the Employment Appeal Tribunal & Court of Appeal. I can draft ET1/ET3, acknowledgment of service, amendment applications, cost applications/responses, grounds for the notice of appeal or rule 3.10 applications. HR policies and more.

Media and Entertainment

I have experience in the world of film and media as documentary Filmmaker and journalist. I have advised Independent filmmakers on many legal issues such as consent, copyright and more. Having worked in and around the media world since 1994, I have also advised people such as Musicians and Actors from various industries including the adult industry on legal matters such as contractual disputes as the sale of services changes in the world we live in.

Regulatory

I have advised many Teachers at the TRA hearing stage and medical professionals at the MPTS (at distinct stages of their career from junior up to senior/consultant levels including nurses and others). I have often been asked to advise on allegations of misconduct which could lead to regulatory action within the profession. I can advise on matters concerning Strike off or Prohibition orders also.
