Practice ranges across all areas and aspects of insurance and reinsurance disputes and transactions. Has acted, and continues to act, for both insurers and policyholders. In around 2010, began advising policyholders, prior to inception of their insurance, on the contents of their insurance policy wordings, and proposing revisions to such wordings in order to make the overall contractual bargain more clear and more fair. A desire to be able to offer such services to a wider population of insureds was a leading reason for the creation of Wynterhill LLP, which has since gone on to be recognised as a leading insurance law firm. Wynterhill LLP having been established and now thriving, departed to found Maryon Wynter Chambers, together with former Devereux Chambers' senior clerk, Elton Maryon, from which once again to provide independent barristerial advice and services, including advice to those seeking assistance on a direct access basis. Remains a consultant at Wynterhill LLP.
What sort of work do I do?
Advice on all aspects of insurance and reinsurance, including advice on disputes (merits, prospects, evidentiary and legal requirements in order to build and win cases) and reviews and revisions of policy wordings. This latter aspect is seldom considered or addressed by policyholders and holds the key to future prospects in the event of a dispute following a loss and a claim. Bargaining power being an essential element in persuading an insurer to revise its standard wording, such reviews will only realistically be worthwhile for insureds who pay premium of such significance that insurers will wish to retain them as insureds..
Who do I work for?
Have advised and/or acted for dozens of major insurers and equally many dozens of leading companies. Significantly, have also acted for much smaller parties and advised on much smaller cases, where the party and/or the issue has warranted it. Averting unfair outcomes will usually signal my willingness to become involved.
