Direct Access Barrister
Aminul Ruhul Islam
As a public access barrister most of my clients come to me directly. However, I also accept instructions from solicitors.
Area of Law
Human Rights
Human rights is integral part of immigration and asylum matters. I have done thousands of cases relating to human rights.
Immigration, Asylum and Nationality
I have been practising in this area since the beginning of 1999. I have literally done thousands of cases in the tribunals as well as applications to the Home Office.
What sort of work do I do?
Immigration: A substantial amount of my work is in immigration and asylum tribunals. The appeals relate to immigration, asylum and human rights. I also do judicial review in both upper tribunal as well as in the high court. Further, I also submit leave to remain/asylum/citizenship applications on behalf of my clients from my chambers.
Family matters: I do divorce applications as well as child arrangement applications. I do ancillary relief (financial dispute between couples). However, as I am a sole practitioner if I feel that the paperwork (especially in financial disputes) would be better managed by some solicitors I refer my clients to solicitors who do the paperwork and I do the court hearings. However, even when I refer some matter to solicitors I keep careful note of how the matter is progressing and advise both the lay clients and the solicitors as to what to do so that the best outcome can be achieved.
Who do I work for?
Most of my clients are of Bangladeshi origin. This is probably because I am of Bangladeshi origin and I speak Bengali. I also speak Hindi. However, a substantial number of my clients are from other countries.
